Last Friday evening, Carroll ISD honored the Class of 2020 with their annual Senior Night presentation and the district also accepted the 2019 Lone Star Cup at halftime from the UIL. The Dragons clinched the 5-6A District Title with a win over Eaton.
The Dragons came into the Friday nights game with one of the highest-scoring offenses in Texas 6A. According to MaxPreps, the Dragons were the ninth highest-scoring offense in the state and were ranked fifth overall in 6A. The Dragons would keep the high scoring intact early in this match up. One the first offensive play, Sophomore Quinn Ewers connected with Senior Brady Burke and on the next play, Ewers would take it in himself for the Dragons first score, only 21 seconds into the game.
Ewers would end the night with three passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown. Freshman Owen Allen finished the game as the teams top rusher with 93 yards and three touchdowns.
Defensively, the Dragons continued to limit the scoring opportunities for their opponents. On the season, the Dragons have eight interceptions and two fumble recoveries. Against Eaton, Senior R.J. Mickens came up with an early interception to get the ball back in the hands of his high octane offense.
The highlight of the night came in the fourth quarter when Senior Jack Crafton entered the game and took a handoff for a 77-yard touchdown which resulted in a huge celebration for Jack in the Dragon endzone.
The victory clinched the district title for the Dragons.
The Dragons will play this Thursday night against Timber Creek for a chance to close the regular season with a perfect record for the second straight year.
