Over the winter break, the Lady Dragon’s Basketball Team competed in the Keller Central Holiday Tournament and left the weekend with the Gold Division Championship.
The Lady Dragons opened the tournament with a tough matchup against Denton High School. Despite a big scoring game from senior Abby Zeitiff, the Dragons came up short in the opener by a score of 50-37. This would be the only loss of the tournament for the Lady Dragons.
The Lady’s took down the Sam Houston Texans by a score of 72-35, the Eaton Lady Eagles by a score of 53-38 and the Mesquite Lady Skeeters 41-32 to set up a championship matchup against the Denton Ryan Lady Raiders.
Trailing at the half, the Lady Dragon’s rallied behind huge games from sophomore Jillian Sowell (16 points, 8 rebounds) and senior Anna Gilliat (11 points) to send the game to overtime. The Lady Dragon’s outscored the Ryan Lady Raiders by 3 in the extra time to take the championship game by a score of 54-51.
Junior Kayla Coan was named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Lady Dragons will be back in action on Friday, January 5 when they visit L.D. Bell. Tip-off is set for 6:30.
