Shop Southlake During Tax-Free Weekend, August 11 – 13

Send the kids back to school in style and stock up on certain items without paying sales tax during the Texas Sales Tax Holiday, August 11-13. With nearly 260 retailers in Southlake, shoppers will find the perfect mix of options and discounts this weekend to complete their school shopping list.

As in previous years, most clothing, footwear and school supplies priced less than $100 are exempt from sales tax during the holiday. Specific eligible items include:

  • Shirts, sweaters and jackets
  • Pants, jeans and shorts
  • Most shoes
  • Basic school supplies
  • Backpacks

It is important for shoppers to note that most clothing and footwear will be exempt from sales tax, but there are exceptions. Items primarily designed for athletic activity or protection, such as golf cleats and football pads, do not qualify for the exemption. However, tennis shoes, basic workout apparel and swimsuits may be purchased tax-free.

Additionally, although most backpacks will be exempt from sales tax, items traditionally not used by elementary and secondary students will still be taxed, such as luggage, briefcases, computer bags and purses.

Shoppers can score additional discounts on top of the sales tax holiday at several Southlake retail locations, including Southlake Town Square, Gateway Plaza and Park Village. Learn more about the various shopping options in Southlake on the Shopping page of VisitSouthlakeTexas.com, including a complete listing of retail businesses.
