Volleyball Opens Regular Season With Exciting Victory; Preps For Aledo

Last week, the Lady Dragon Volleyball team wrapped up the tournament portion of their schedule. The competition in these tournaments was top-notch and it gave the team a chance to measure themselves against competition that they would see throughout the regular season and potentially the playoffs.

The Lady Dragons opened tournament season with a tenth-place finish in the John Turner Classic in Pearland. McKenzie Nichols was named to the All-Tournament team after her outstanding performance.

Nichols and teammate Natalie Glenn were named to the All-Tournament Team in the Northwest ISD Tournament. The Lady Dragons took fourth overall in that bracket.

They concluded the tournament season with a third-place finish in the Lonestar Circle of Champions tournament. Nichols, Glenn, Annabelle Smith, and Kendal Gilpin were all honored with All-Tournament honors.

The tournament season set them up perfectly as they sprinted into regular season play against a hot McKinney Boyd team that had recently won the Lone Star Circle of Champions. This early season matchup was a back and forth battle that was decided in the fourth set. The Lady Dragons would go on to win in final set 25-15 and seal the regular season-opening victory.

The Lady Dragons were lead by many strong performances in this one. Smith had 18 kills and seven blocks. Glenn racked up a double-double with 19 kills and 11 digs. Nichols had 45 assists and 19 digs and Gilpin contributed 19 digs.

LDVB is 23-5 overall and heads into a matchup Friday night against at Aledo.

Teresa Dunn Named Lady Dragon Volleyball Head Coach

A familiar face will be on the sidelines next year for the Lady Dragon Volleyball team. Teresa Dunn, former varsity assistant coach, will return to Carroll ISD to take over as the Lady Dragons Head Volleyball Coach.

Coach Dunn was announced officially at the April 16 School Board meeting and expressed her excitement to be back with Carroll ISD.

“I am ready to continue to protect the tradition of this program”, stated Dunn. “Thank you for this opportunity.”

Coach Dunn graduated and played college volleyball for West Texas A&M (WTAMU). During her time at WTAMU, she made four regional final, two final four, and one national championship appearance in postseason play. She served as a varsity assistant coach from 2012-2016 for Marcus High School, before joining the Lady Dragons as an assistant varsity coach in 2016. Last season, Coach Dunn took over as head coach for the Midlothian Lady Panthers and led them to the third round of the playoffs.
