Take extra care of pets during freezing temperatures

Pet owners, take a few extra steps to ensure your pets are well-protected during freezing temperatures.

Fort Worth animal welfare ordinances require that all pets have access to an adequate warm and dry shelter and access to water and food.

The ASPCA provided these cold-weather tips for pets:

  • Feeding your pet a little bit more during the cold weather months can provide much-needed calories, and making sure they have plenty of water to drink will help keep them well-hydrated and their skin less dry.
  • Remember, if it’s too cold for you, it’s probably too cold for pets, so keep animals inside. If left outdoors, pets can freeze, become disoriented, lost or injured.
  • Don’t leave pets alone in a car during cold weather, as cars can act as refrigerators that hold in the cold and cause animals to freeze to death.

To report animals who may be in distressed situations, call 817-392-1234 or email the Call Center.
