Congressman Marc Veasey will be the guest speaker at the Indivisible Oak Cliff (IOC) July 31st meeting at Unitarian Universalist Church of Oak Cliff, 3839 W. Kiest Blvd., Dallas, at 6:30. The event is free and open to the public.” Veasey has represented Texas’ 33rd congressional district since November 2012. Prior to that, he was a member of the Texas House of Representatives from 2005 to 2013 serving as the Chair Pro Tempore of the House Democratic Caucus. He sponsored measures to create career and technology training in high schools, authored HB 62 which honored Tim Cole, a Texas Tech University student wrongly convicted of raping a fellow student in 1985, and authored a bill requiring a study designed to increase enforcement of the James Byrd Jr. hate crime bill. Currently, Veasey sits on the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology and the House Committee on Armed Services. Some of the bills he has recently sponsored include HR 2830: Methane Emissions Mitigation Act; HR 2777: Give Veterans Home Loan Choices Act of 2017; HR 6495: Ensure access to DACA Act (American Dream Promise Act; HR 2070: FAFSA for All (Federal Student Aid).
