Union Gospel Mission of Tarrant County broke ground on a 102,679-square-foot mixed-used development that will offer 104 multifamily apartments designated as affordable housing.
The Vineyard on Lancaster will cost $19 million to complete, $12 million of which is funded by housing tax credits, the National Housing Trust Fund and the Affordable Housing Program. Additional support has been provided by private foundations including Amon G. Carter Foundation, Mabee Foundation, Ryan Foundation, Burnett Foundation and Sid Richardson Foundation.
Located at 1401 E. Lancaster Ave. in east Fort Worth, the two-building campus is part of the Near East Side Urban Village revitalization. It will be sited on the last parcel of vacant property owned by Union Gospel Mission and is expected to house its first resident by the end of 2019.
“Our community’s recent population boom has overtaxed an already stressed housing challenge. For the past five years, our leadership has been prayerfully and strategically planning for the opportunity to provide more affordable housing options in this community,” said Don Shisler, president and chief executive officer of Union Gospel Mission. “Anyone will be eligible to apply to live at The Vineyard on Lancaster, where seven different types of housing vouchers will also be accepted for payment.”
The Vineyard on Lancaster is made possible through collaborative partnerships with the City of Fort Worth, JPS Health Network, MHMR of Tarrant County and Tarrant County College.
